Fiver Party
A "fiver party" is a birthday party where guests are asked to contribute $5 (or a similar amount) instead of bringing a traditional gift. The money is pooled to buy the birthday child a larger, more meaningful present and reduce potential waste, clutter and time spent shopping for gifts.

Save time, money and the Planet by hosting a Fiver Party!
The concept
Instead of the usual gift giving tradition, parents hosting a fiver party ask guests to contribute a small amount of money (e.g., $5) towards a larger gift that the birthday child wants.
Purpose
The goal is to avoid the accumulation of clutter and the contribution to landfill. It allows the child to put the money they receive towards a desired item rather than a collection of potentially unwanted toys.
How it works
Parents inform guests that instead of traditional gifts, they contribute a $5 note towards a larger gift for the birthday child.
What should I write on the invite?
It can feel awkward asking for money instead of gifts so when inviting guests to a fiver party, you can use wording like we have listed below. Feel free to copy and paste.
[Name] is having a fiver party so instead of bringing her a gift, feel free to pop $5 in a card.
Instead of gifts, please bring a $5 contribution towards a special gift for [Name]
It’s a Fiver party! [Name] would love your presence not your presents! If you would like to bring a gift please consider $5 so he can put it toward something special.
It's a Fiver Party so while gifts are not necessary, if you would like to bring something for the birthday girl we would suggest putting a Fiver in a card.
If you don't have space on the invite to explain you can always reference this website by including "Visit fiverparty.com for more information"
How much should I contribute?
A guide on how much money you should give based on age is below. Remember it is the thought that counts.
Age 0-9: $5
Age 10-14: $10
Age 15+: $15
It’s a win win situation.
Parents will thank you!

Happy Parents
"We hosted our first Fiver party on the weekend and it went really well. It was a relief not to have to find space for a bunch of new toys." - Jane, Sydney Australia
